Solomon Islands police are yet to make any arrests in relation to an armed raid in the Western Province last month involving suspected Bougainvilleans.

The raid occurred at the Solomon Gold prospecting camp in the Shortland Islands.

Police say four Bougainville men are suspects.

The Acting Police Commissioner Walter Kola says they are working with counterparts in the neighbouring autonomous PNG province to try and track down the men.

"But it's quite difficult to ascertain the true identity of these men. At the moment, we're relying on few witnesses but there was no clear identification of these fellas. But there were stories that have come through such as that, yes, these four can easily be identified."

Walter Kola says the armed men in the raid stole 20 bags of soil from extracts at the gold prospecting site.
