Morobe miners form union

Miners in PNG's Morobe province have formed a union to protect workers' rights and safety, and already has 5,000 members.

Union general secretary, Albert Uba, who was in Port Moresby this week, told the Post Courier paper, that the Morobe Mining and Allied Workers Union is now one of the biggest unions in the province.

Mr Uba said the union has been formed to pursue secure employment and improved terms and conditions of employees for the Morobe Mining Joint Venture.

The Union is affiliated directly to the PNG Trade Union Congress.
