Another drugs charge has been filed in Tonga against a Vava'u Nobles Representative and a former Speaker of the Legislative Assembly .

Matangi Tonga reports that Lord Tu'ilakepa is charged with one new count of conspiracy to the importation of an illicit drug into Tonga in addition to five illicit drugs and illegal firearms charges laid last year.

The former Speaker, Lord Lasike, will also face trial at the Supreme Court in Nuku'alofa for one count of unlawful possession of ammunition.

Lord Tu'ilakepa was set to appear at the Magistrate Court this week, but all cases were adjourned to next week.

The Police Prosecutor, Mema Latu, says the new charge relates to the five charges last year, which followed a transnational police investigation into illicit drugs conducted in Tonga and Australia.

Lord Tu'ilakepa was one of nine nobles elected to Tonga's new-look parliament last year.
