Most Rarotonga lagoons fail water quality tests

Almost all lagoon sites tested in Rarotonga in the Cook Islands have failed quality standards set by the Ministry of Marine Resources.

Of the 14 surveyed, 13 did not receive pass marks on the ministry's water quality report card.

The ministry measured the lagoons for nutrient levels, water clarity and bacteria content.

Last year seven lagoon sites failed a test that pitted them against international marine health standards.
