Fiji's Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama has assured that the country will go to elections in 2014 despite requests from people for elections not to be held.

The regime has reneged on a promise to hold election in 2009 - three years after the last military coup.

FBC News reports Commodore Bainimarama says people have come up to him and asked that he carry on with his leadership and for elections to be called-off.

However, Commodore Bainimarama has maintained that Fiji has to go to elections in 2014.

He says work is being done on the new constitution.
