The French Polynesian veteran politician, Gaston Flosse, has taken exception to the media coverage of his daughter's implication in a drugs probe.
Cora Flosse was detained for two days as police investigated the extent of a ring involved in the distribution and consumption of hard drugs, such as methamphetamine and cocaine.
Mr Flosse has told local television that she is innocent and it is unfair for the media to pursue his daughter and publishing photos of her, saying she is only guilty of carrying the Flosse name.
He likened the media's behaviour to that of a pack of dogs.
According to the daily La Depeche, Cora Flosse has told investigators that she no longer uses drugs and offered to take a blood test.
Six people have been charged in the drugs bust and two police agents have been sacked after a dealer identified them as users.
