A 23-year-old man from Manus province in Papua New Guinea has been arrested by detectives after he allegedly attempted to extort money and sex from a female journalist in Port Moresby on Saturday.

Police say the woman, well known TV newscaster Antonia Singut, filed a police complaint after she'd received a series of malicious phone calls and emails accusing her of participating in a pornographic video.

Police say the woman in the sex tape is not Ms Singut and anyone caught circulating malicious rumours, or attempting to black mail her will be arrested.

The suspect, Martin Wojeiba, was caught in a police sting operation.
