Samoa may pursue broadcasting complaint in NZ court

3:05 pm on 18 May 2011

The government of Samoa has not ruled out going to the New Zealand high court after the Broadcasting Standards Authority rejected Samoa's complaint against TV 3 of New Zealand.

The BSA says the government was given fair and reasonable opportunity to respond to allegations of financial mismanagement following the 2009 tsunami broadcast on the Campbell Live programme.

Samoa's Attorney General, Aumua Ming Leung Wai, says the government strenuously denied those allegations when the programmes first aired, and it continues to deny them now.

The Attorney General says the BSA has chosen not to take sides on this but the inaccuracy of claims made by John Campbell was at the very heart of the complaint.
