Vanuatu: Sato Kilman's return could be short-lived

6:11 am on 17 May 2011

Vanuatu's speaker has summoned parliament to meet this Friday to test which group has the majority.

The Court of Appeal has reinstated Sato Kilman as prime minister, overturning last month's Supreme Court ruling which upheld the election of Serge Vohor.

The Speaker Maxime Carlot Korman says the Court of Appeal also established that he can cast a vote if there's no clear result on Friday.

He says in that scenario he would vote with whoever has the simple majority.

"My intention is to give stability in our country we have to arrive very quick on Friday and then I will give majority if necessary in order to come out of this kind of instability."
