Commonwealth Games champion Yukio Peter has won Nauru's first gold medal of the Arafura Games, securing top spot in the men's 77 kilogram weightlifting category.
Peter's efforts come a day after teammate Elson Brechtefield won Nauru's first medal of the games, a silver in the 56 kilogram division, which was won by Fiji's Manuelo Tulo.
Rita Kari added to Papua New Guinea's gold medal tally yesterday with victory in the women's 63 kilogram section, ahead of Samoa's Faitoa Togagae.
Papua New Guinea are seventh on the overall Arafura Games medal tally with 12 golds and a total of 43 medals.
