Vanuatu court to hear Kilman appeal

1:43 pm on 11 May 2011

Vanuatu's court of appeal is today due to hear the case brought by a former prime minister, Sato Kilman, against the ruling of the speaker of parliament, Maxime Carlot Korman.

The appeal is to challenge last month's court decision which found that Mr Korman acted constitutionally when he approved the election of Serge Vohor as the new prime minister.

Mr Vohor's election was possible after 26 of the parliament's 52 MPs voted for him.

But Mr Kilman claims that a majority of 27 was needed for the vote.
