The Indonesian military, the TNI, is attempting to repair its image among the people in the Papua region, amid perceptions it had been ineffective, along with police, in tackling a recent spate of violent crime.
The Jakarta Post reports the TNI is running a community event over the next four months in Puncak Jaya regency, dubbed Love and Peace are Beautiful.
Tensions in the regency have been high with a series of killings in the last five years.
The military has accused locals of supporting secessionist movements, while residents accuse the TNI and police of rights abuses.
