Not guilty plea from Samoa police accused of assault

Two Samoa police officers accused of police brutality have pleaded not guilty.

The officers Ferila Papali'i and Efo Moalele are accused of beating a 45 year old mother while they questioned her about the whereabouts of the woman's daughter.

Mrs. Sione, who has since been convicted with her husband over the daughter's death and is now imprisoned suffered a broken nose from the assault.

The officers were charged with causing grievous bodily harm which carries a maxinmum penalty of seven years in prison.

The paid have denied the charges.

A hearing has been set for the Supreme Court on 19 September.
