The Australian ambassador to Indonesia, Greg Moriarty, and the Papua governor Barnabas Suebu and his West Papua counterpart, Abraham Atururi, this week signed new aid deals to improve health, education and infrastructure in the two provinces.

The Jakarta Post reports Mr Moriarty saying Australia is working with Jakarta and the provincial governments to achieve lasting development.

He says there are many challenges to improve the quality of education in Papua and West Papua, including the diverse geography, low population density and the remoteness of villages.
