Employees of Samoa's Yazaki plant hit by Japan crisis

More than 800 employees of Samoa's biggest private employer, Yazaki Eds Samoa, will have their work hours cut by up to half as a result of Japan's earthquake and tsunami.

The company's General Manager, Funefeai Oliva Va'ai, has told the Samoa Observer the reduction of working hours is devastating, especially since workers need money.

The disaster in Japan has dramatically reduced the demand for wire harnessing from Toyota Australia which Yazaki Samoa Eds supplies.

Funefeai says the cut in hours are expected to last two months.
