Fiji tourism officials says visitor numbers from New Zealand and Australia up for Easter

Tourism officials in Fiji say visitors from New Zealand have been making holiday bookings earlier than usual.

Tourism Fiji is expecting an influx of families with school children from New Zealand and Australia during the current school holidays and the Easter break.

Its chief executive officer, Josefa Tuamoto, says hotels and resorts are already filling up and expects many will reach capacity during the next two weeks.

He says bookings on flights from Australia and New Zealand have been higher than previous years and says New Zealanders have also booked their holiday packages more in advance.

"The Kiwis are now realising that if they wait for the last minute they will not be able to get the type of accommodation that they've had because of the interest from Australia. Australians book a little bit longer than Kiwis so the Kiwis now are sort of trying to book early so they can have the type of accommodation that they require."
