8:20 am on 7 April 2011

The head of the Victims Support Group in Samoa is in American Samoa to try and set up a sister organisation there.

In Samoa the group operates shelters where victims are housed and provides moral support for them when they go through the judicial system.

President Lina Chang's visit comes as the territory is promoting greater awareness of child abuse, sexual assault, development disability, and the prevention of teenage pregnancy.

"In Samoa we work together with the Attorney General's Office and that's probably the strongest backbone that we have."
