Vanuatu women call for MSG office to be moved to Fiji or PNG

Vanuatu's National Council of Women is calling for the Melanesian Spearhead Group secretariat to be moved from Port Vila after the MSG leaders last week granted observer status to Indonesia.

The president of the Council, Manina Packete, says the decision of the prime minister, Sato Kilman, to accept Indonesia as an observer, while ignoring the long push by Papua for such status, makes a mockery of Vanuatu.

She says Vanuatu's stand on the West Papua issue is clear and Mr Kilman's action goes against it.

She says the MSG secretariat should be moved to either Fiji or Papua New Guinea.
