The Cook Islands are keeping their targets high going into this weekend's Adelaide Sevens, which kicks off tomorrow.
The team disappointed in their last world series appearance in Wellington, winning just one game and letting a 17-nil lead slip in their pool match against England.
The team had set themselves a goal of making the quarter-finals in New Zealand and team manager Brent Matcheet says despite a few bruised egos, that goal hasn't changed.
"We definately target the top eight. We believe that we've got the capabilities to do that so we'd be disappointed if we don't. Quite a new team -eight different players and it's quite a lot of a development tour in this one. So we've got quite a few local boys from Rarotonga. So we know we've got the capabilities on the day to definitely knock over any team."
Brent Matcheet says the team is targeting two wins against Wales and Kenya in their pool in Adelaide, while they're also hoping to push New Zealand close.
