Auckland City prepare for the unknown in Vanuatu

9:51 am on 31 March 2011

Auckland City will be going in blind when they face Amicale FC in the first leg of the Oceania Champions League football final this weekend.

The two-time champions leave for Vanuatu today with co-coach Aaron McFarland admitting they haven't actually been able to source any footage of Amicale in action.

But he says they've still been able to map out a game plan they believe will work in Port Vila.

"We'll need to defend slightly differently because in New Zealand we can afford to press higher and more frequently, with more vigour, because it's a better temperature but also because different sorts of players are up there we're gonna perhaps choose our time - our moment - to press and that's something that we'll really be looking at this week."

Aaron McFarland says, while a win is the ideal outcome, it's crucial they pick up an away goal at the very least ahead of the second leg in New Zealand.
