Samoa's new deputy prime minister, Fonotoe Pierre Lauofo, who is also the Minister of Trade and Commerce, sees opportunities for trade between Samoa, and its closest neighbor American Samoa.

Fonotoe is the first cousin of American Samoa governor Togiola Tulafono, and a strong contingent of relatives from American samoa attended his swearing in as Deputy PM.

He told the government newspaper, Le Savali, there are many lucrative opportunities for both Samoas if they worked together.

Fonotoe says he advocates the continuing of the annual inter-Samoa talks.

The last talks were held in 2006.
