3:21 pm on 25 March 2011

Tonga's prime minister, Lord Tu'ivakano, has presented the Japanese Ambassador, Yasuo Takase, with a cheque for just over 107,000 US dollars for the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

The prime minister says the donation is not much, due to the economic status of the country, but it may be useful for one or two families.

He said Japan has made significant aid contributions to Tonga over the years, and he expressed his deepest condolences for the victims of the disaster.
