Samoa hoping Pesamino wont be out for long

One big name is missing but two others have returned for defending champions Samoa at the Hong Kong Sevens, which begins tonight.

Stephen Betham's side are currently third in the IRB World Series standings, trailing leaders England and New Zealand by 16 points, and are yet to win a tournament in the current campaign.

Lolo Lui and Uale Mai have returned to boost the team but Mikaele Pesamino has been ruled out with a niggling knee injury.

Stephen Betham says hopefully he wont be absent for too long.

"It has hindered his performance and, you know, it's better off that he stay and try and get that knee one hundred percent for the last two tournaments. We've brought along new players and hopefully they'll make their mark."

Unlike the other tournaments on the World Series circuit, there are 30 points up for grabs for the winner, while 24 teams are competing in six pools, instead of the usual 16.

Samoa's sole match on Friday evening is against Mexico, with games against Tonga and Scotland to played on Saturday.
