The Chinese news agency Xinhua has opened a news bureau in the Fiji capital, Suva.
A spokesman for the Chinese embassy in Suva says the Xinhua Suva Bureau's coverage includes all big and important events both in Fiji and some South Pacific island countries like Vanuatu, Samoa, Tonga and Tuvalu.
He says in recent years, as China-Fiji relations have grown rapidly, Xinhua has the responsibility and task to tell the Chinese people who have had growing interests in the area about the reality of Fiji.
