A high chief of Asau on the Samoan island of Savaii says he's waiting to hear from a village special committee about the action they'll take on the way he voted in the recent general election.
Masoe Selota says many Asau villagers voted for Vaai Papu who's from the neighbouring village and is leader of the Tautua Samoa Party.
Vaai Papu says village elders threatened villagers with banishment on the eve of the election if they didn't vote for a candidate from Asau village and Masoe Selota says he's worried.
"I am still in the village now, still waiting for what they are going to do. But they said they're looking for the people who were voting for Papu and they will be off from the village. The election is finished but it is my own free will for the elections."

Vaai Papu has offered to help people go to court if their vote leads to banishment as such pressure is against the law.
