PNG PM Somare in health scare

11:20 pm on 11 March 2011

Papua New Guinea's Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare had a minor health scare during the brief resumption of a tribunal into alleged misconduct in office.

Shortly after the tribunal started Sir Michael, required assistance when he was struggling to breathe.

The three-man tribunal bench checked to see if Sir Michael was ok; when he gained his composure again the PM laughed off their concern saying he was fine.

The tribunal then adjourned for ten minutes.

In the brief Friday session Sir Michael's lawyers tendered two new statements as evidence regarding the 25 allegations the PM failed to lodge financial statements on time, incompletely or not at all.
