In American Samoa, Governor Togiola Tulafono has activated the Emergency Operations Center and radio stations have been broadcasting notices to people leaving in low lying areas to move to higher ground.

The Emergency Manager of the Department of Homeland Security has advised residents not to panic but to take necessary precautions to protect lives and property.

The first wave is estimated to arrive at 4 am local time.

Already cars have lined up at local petrol stations and many vehicles are headed up to Aoloau and Malaeimi villages which are slightly elevated.
