A 6-point-6 quake has struck the island of New Britain in Papua New Guinea.
The U.S. Geological Survey says the epicenter of the quake, which was fairly shallow at a depth of 43.2 kilometres, was only 27 kilometres north-northeast of the town of Kandrian.
The Post Moresby observatory says that the earthquake was felt in Lae but there have been no reports of damage so far.
