Another two MPs have reportedly returned to the Solomon Islands government, further strengthening the ranks of the ruling coalition.

The government says Stanley Sofu has been resworn in as Public Service Minister after resigning from the portfolio three weeks ago.

Mr Sofu says his decision to rejoin the government is based on national interest, which is to see that the upcoming budget is passed.

The Solomon Star reports that MP Alfred Ghiro also switched to the government yesterday, citing the need to maintain political stability.

It follows the return of four other MPs to the government last week.
