Fiji hopeful Knights clash can become annual event

The Fiji Residents rugby league team insist they've moved on from last week's drubbing at the hands of Newcastle, and are even optimistic there could be a repeat fixture next year.

The Bati wrap up their brief Australian tour today against a New South Wales selection side looking for a huge improvement on their 72-0 thumping by the Knights NRL team.

The General Manager of Fiji National Rugby League, Steve McLellan, says the team isn't despondent and is viewing the Knights game as a learning curve.

He says they're hopeful the matches aren't a one-off occurrence.

"I mean it was important for us that - we've said all along we wanted to be competitive. I mean that scoreline doesn't indicate that but we also wanted a good crowd so Newcastle can do the sums and say we haven't lost money on the venture and we'd love to be able to put it as an annual event."
