Solomon Islands get volleyball funding boost

The Solomon Islands volleyball federation has been awarded a US 10 thousand dollar Pacific Sport development grant from the Australian High Commission in Honiara.

The Solomon Star reports the grant is part of the Australian Sport Outreach Program which aims to help build organizations and contribute to improved leadership, health promotion and social cohesion.

The Solomon Islands Volleyball Federation President, Morris Maitaki, says the financial assistance will be a huge boost for volleyball in the country.

He says the federation has struggled to develop the sport throughout the provinces due to finance and that the funds will focus mainly on increasing the level of participation in Mini-Volleyball by children and young students from age 9 to 14 years.
