PNG parliament recalled to swear in Governor General

7:42 am on 18 February 2011

The Papua New Guinea Parliament will be recalled for a day's sitting next Friday to swear in the governor-general-elect, Michael Ogio.

The National reports that cabinet sources say the government's only agenda will be the swearing-in of the governor general before the house adjourns until May.

This will be the second time parliament would be recalled, since it was adjourned last November, to deal with matters concerning the office of the governor-general.

Parliament was first recalled in January after the Supreme Court voided the election of Sir Paulias Matane and ordered parliament to meet within 40 days to elect a new governor-general.
