Body of former president of Fiji taken to chiefly village

The funeral cortege of the former president of Fiji, Ratu Josefa Iloilo will leave for the chiefly village of Viseisei, Vuda this morning.

Fiji Live reports that all major roads in the capital were closed yesterday as people lined the streets to catch a glimpse of the former president's hearse as it made its way from Suva Hospital.

Dignitaries including the interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama and other cabinet ministers paid their respects to Ratu Josefa as he lay in state at Government House.

The former president passed away last Sunday following a long illness.

A state funeral will be held on Thursday.
