Vanuatu battle over ownership of political party name off to court

In Vanuatu a long awaited legal dispute between two factions of the opposition Vanuaaku Pati, in which both claim the name of the party, will go to court next month.

A group around former prime minister, Edward Natapei, had applied to the court to stop MP Harry Iauko and his supporters from claiming ownership of the Vanuaaku Pati.

The fracture became apparent at the party's annual congress last year.

The Vanuaaku Pati is Vanuatu's oldest and was established by the country's founder Prime Minister, Father Walter Lini.
