The Australian High Commision in Honiara has reiterated that allegations claiming it is seeking to influence Solomon Island politics have no basis.

The Australian High Commision in Honiara says Australia is working constructively with the elected government of the day.

This statement follows allegations in Solomon Islands media that Australia is seeking to influence local politics.

The High Commission is denying the allegations, saying Australia does not support or fund Solomon Islands MPs or political parties.

Australia also denies claims it manipulates the local justice system.

The Commission says Australia is working with the Solomon Islands government of Prime Minister Danny Philip on its common agenda of promoting stability, economic progress and the welfare of all Solomon Islanders.
