Candidates for Samoa's general election next month have been reminded they can no longer offer food or refreshments to voters at the polling booths.
The Electoral Act which had allowed food and refreshments of about five US dollars was amended in 2009 amid allegations food was used to bribe voters in the 2006 election.
Our correspondent Autagavaia Tipi Autagavaia says the Electoral Commissioner Tanuvasa Isitolo Lemisio has reminded candidates they cannot provide any food to voters until polling booths are closed.
"The cabinet or the caretaker government I should say, has refered lots of enquiries from candidates' committees to his office because there are some numerous allegations and speculations saying that some people say refreshments are still allowed."
Autagavaia Tipi Autagavaia says the electoral commissioner has also encouraged voters to have a decent breakfast before they go to vote.
