Two employees at the Samoa Housing Corporation have been jailed for theft.

Fa'afetai Fa'atoia, a former receptionist for the corporation was convicted of seven counts of theft for stealing around 8,500 US dollars.

Despite paying back the amount, she was jailed for nine months.

Her co-defendant, Mariana Lemana, who was Finance Officer, was jailed for a year.

She was convicted of 11 counts of theft for stealing around 18,000 US dollars which she has also repaid.

Justice Vui Clarence Nelson said though the two had paid back the stolen funds, their offences were deliberate and calculated.

He said imprisonment was necessary to deter them from offending again in the future.
