Bad weather hampers American Samoa recovery

9:18 am on 26 January 2011

Stormy weather lingering in American Samoa is making recovery and clean up difficult.

A monsoonal trough has dumped more rain causing flooding and landslides and strong gusts felled more trees

Pago Pago International Airport is closed for another 24 hours, halting inter island flights to Samoa and Manu'a.

Hawaiian Air's flight due in last night was cancelled indefinitely.

The port also remains closed, while three ships are waiting three miles out of Pago Pago Harbor for clearance to enter.

Today public schools and many private schools will be shut for a second day while teachers clean up classrooms and school buildings.
