2:30 pm on 21 January 2011

The Chilean authorities have announced that the upgrading of the runway of Easter Island's airport will force a reduction of flights for a month.

They say from March the 5th to April the 9th, the airline LAN will cut its number of weekly flights to Mataveri airport from 14 to six.

The flights between Easter Island and Tahiti will be rescheduled to two days earlier in the week.

Not affected will be the new flights between Easter Island and Lima in Peru, which were launched this month.
