Tahiti's world record lei recognised by Guinness

The organisation Guinness World Records has confirmed that French Polynesia has made the longest flower lei.

It recognises last September's effort to string together a 2695 metre lei of tiare flowers, beating Hawaii's previous record by more than a kilometre.

The record was set in the Paofai garden in Tahiti and was achieved when Miss Polynesia 2010, Mihilani Teixeira, tied the last knot.

Those who took part in making the lei have been asked to contact Guinness World Records to get a personal certificate.
