American Samoa's governor Togiola Tulafono has ordered all flags in the territory be flown at half-mast until January 14, as a sign of respect to honor the victims of the weekend shooting in Arizona.

Togiola says American Samoa joins the federal government and the territories in expressing its deepest condolences over the loss lives as a result of the horrific and senseless acts of violence in Arizona.

The governor urged all residents of American Samoa to pray for the souls of the victims as well as their families during this very difficult time.

U.S. President Barack Obama has issue an executive proclamation lowering the flags throughout the United States and its territories.
