Extra day's crushing at Fiji sugar mill

9:14 am on 7 January 2011

The Fiji Sugar Corporation has agreed to extend crushing at the Rarawai Sugar Mill for one more day.

Crushing for the 2010 season was to have ended today.

However FBC news reports the FSC says cane harvesting will now end today, as no more quotas for harvesting and delivery will be given out to farmers for Saturday.

The Corporation says there are around 25,000 tonnes of cane which may be left as standing crop after this Saturday - and will be harvested during next season.

The Rarawai mill resumed crushing late last night following a boiler problem yesterday.

FSC says it is uneconomical to continue crushing at the Rarawai mill due to continuous break-downs.
