Holiday traffic highlights Fiji shipping needs

Fiji's Transport Ministry says more boats are needed to service Fiji's outer islands and ease the strain on the current services.

The ministry's spokesperson Sainiana Waqainabete has told FBC News this would lessen the workload for existing ships.

This comes after the Bligh Water Shipping's MV Suilven was stopped from sailing to Taveuni and Savusavu because it was found to have more passengers than it was allowed to carry.

The MV Suilven was eventually allowed to leave the Suva Harbour after some passengers were told to disembark.

Mr Waqainabete says this is an issue that needs to be addressed and government is doing all it can to fix it.
