Threat of legal action still hangs over Vanuatu leadership

4:07 pm on 22 December 2010

Vanuatu's opposition Vanua'aku Pati has not ruled out legal action in attempts to force the resignation of the Prime Minister Sato Kilman.

The opposition led by Edward Natapei earlier planned to file a petition in court to decide whether parliament should meet this Friday to debate the motion, for fear of a looming constitutional crisis.

But the party's lawyer, Edward Nalyal, says as the opposition does not now have the numbers in parliament, a petition won't be filed.

Mr Nalyal says a decision on any other legal action will now wait until the new year.
