American Samoa teachers spared work hour cuts

3:28 pm on 21 December 2010

The President of The Federation of American Samoa Educators, Ben Te'o, says educators were informed by government officials at a rally today that teachers will be exempt from reduced working hours.

FASE members had held a rally this morning to protest against a 10-hour reduction for the government workforce as part of cost-cutting measures.

The measure won't affect critical or essential workers such as firemen, doctors, police and now teachers.

The president of the Federation of American Samoa Educators, Ben Te'o, says it's great news and members will still gather tomorrow morning at Utulei Beach to express their gratitude.

"I think its only fair and to be on a professional side that we say thank you to the Governor for answering our demands and our call."
