Fiji's interim Prime Minister says now that the leadership issue of the Melanesian Spearhead Group is sorted out, it can get on with focussing on issues of regional importance, like good governance.

Fiji officially assumed the MSG chairmanship after a special reconciliation ceremony in Solomon Islands this week.

The ceremony was organised by the Solomon Islands government to break the impasse between Vanuatu and Fiji over the MSG chairmanship.

Commodore Frank Bainimarama has told Auckland's Radio Tarana that the chairmanship issue is now water under the bridge.

"My government acknowledges the spirit of Melanesian solidarity that brought about the reconciliation process, and we thank the Government and the people of Vanuatu for that. The Melanesian Spearhead Group can continue to focus on issues that are crucial to the growth of our member nations including good governance and accelerating economic growth."
