Second Tongan noble MP faces firearms charge

Another of the nine Tongan nobles selected to sit in the new parliament is facing criminal charges.

The Matangi Tonga website reports Noble Tu'iha'ateiho was charged earlier this week with possession of an illegal firearm and is to stand trial in the Supreme Court.

He was re-elected as one of the nobles' representatives from Ha'apai.

The revelations come after another noble MP, the former Speaker, Tu'ilakepa, was also charged with firearms and drug offences this week after a series of joint police raids in Tonga and Australia last week.
