The police in Samoa have charged an independent MP, Toluono Feti Toluono, with one count of theft.

The charge follows a police investigation into the sale of a freehold land by the MP who was the former General Manager of the Electric Power Corporation or EPC.

The assistant police commissioner, Leaupepe Fatu Pula, says the matter has already been called for mention in the district court.

The assistant commissioner says it is likely that more charges will be laid.
