CNMI govt employees face pay delay

12:11 pm on 2 December 2010

In the Northern Marianas, hundreds of government employees in non-critical service positions will once again have a payless payday tomorrow.

Most of them will not only have another payless payday, but also a 64-hour payroll when they receive their cheques next week.

The governor's press secretary, Angel Demapan, says non-critical personnel are expected to receive their payroll on either next Tuesday or Wednesday.

He says due to insufficient funds to cover payroll expenses, the government is once again forced to delay payroll disbursement for government employees in non-critical services.

Similar to the previous delayed paydays, only critical service personnel such as police officers, fire fighters, corrections officers, juvenile detention officers, doctors and nurses will be paid tomorrow.
