Tonga's first contingent of 55 soldiers will be deployed to Afghanistan this month to support the NATO-led International Security Armed Forces Mission, ISAF.
Matangi Tonga online reports the group will first complete its pre-deployment training in Britain.
The Tongan contingent will be based with about 20,000 British troops and US Marines in Helmand Province.
They will be conducting force protection and security on the boundaries of Camp Bastion.
